January 2016 – German Television Award
Should we be proud? Yes, we should! The two TV-documentaries “Doping – Top Secret: The Shadowy World of Athletics” and “The Doping Secret: How Russia creates Champions” was awarded the prestigious “Deutscher Fernsehpreis” (German Television Award).
Both of the documentaries were produced by Hajo Seppelt, a German journalist and author, considered an expert on doping in international sports. He spoke to athletes and officials in Kenya, Russia and other parts of the world. The films caused a stir by presenting indications of systematic doping not only within the Russian Athletics Federation but also among athletes in other countries and Kenya’s long-distance runners in particular.
Our part were the interviews with the experts on doping here in Australia. We went to a place called Surfers Paradise to talk to Michael Ashenden, one of the world’s top doping experts and a specialist on doping in cycling. For both of the now awarded documentaries he explained in front of our camera how doping can work and how officials as well as athletes try to get along with it.
Not far away from Canberra, the Capital of Australia, lives Robin Parisotto. He is a stem cell scientist and another world famous expert on doping in sports. For the awarded TV documentary he spoke to us about blood doping, how it’s done and how risky it is for the athletes.
We are very happy that Hajo Seppelt and his films were awarded and we are thankful that we had the chance being part of the production.
